Math/CS Seminar Room / Student Offices / Computer Labs
 Math/CS Seminar Room

The Math/CS Seminar Room is the site of Tuesday afternoon Mathematics and Computer Science Colloquia, and evening help sessions in Calculus and Statistics. Often, students in upper-level mathematics and computer science classes meet here to study together. It's also the location of the CS "chat" sessions; where students gather for pizza and discussion of selected articles from recent computer publications. Many upper-level mathematics/computer science courses are also taught in this room.

 Student Offices

Desk space in a "student office" area (Chamberlin 314) is available for upper-level Math and CS majors. This office area has doors to both of the Math/CS department computer labs, and is intended to make it convenient for our students to study or to use these computers. It's a common gathering area for small groups of students working on joint projects, such as in the Math Modeling or Software Engineering courses. The office area includes UNIX stations, couches (for studying and, more often, napping), a small refrigerator, and a microwave. The department and science division servers are located here, and student managers (Web managers, systems managers, and lab managers) work here. Other desks go to students involved with special research projects, then to senior and junior majors.

 Computer Labs

There are several computing facilities available for use by the Science Division, including the Mathematics and Computer Science students. The Math/CS department has a Macintosh lab in . The room currently has 4 Power Machintosh G4's, 12 iMacs (5 with CD burners) and two Laser Jet printers. Each year, we replace the 4 or 5 oldest computers with the newest model Macintosh, so there are always some of the current "hot" machines in the lab. These machines are used heavily in the introductory CS courses, and are quite popular for email, word processing, Internet surfing (excuse me, "research"), etc. Software manuals and popular journals are also kept in this room.
